I came across a video of a cat playing with its shadow and it stayed in my mind. There was something about the movement that felt so completely cat-like, and I knew I wanted to paint it. I spent a long time adjusting the background until I was happy with the soft golden evening light. This painting gave me a lot of joy while I was working on it, and it still makes me happy each time I look at it.

Instead of the viewer simply looking at the person in the painting, she looks back through her camera, changing who is looking at whom.

It was a cloudy autumn day when I was walking through Jesus Green with a friend. The air was quite chilly, and the pigeons had puffed themselves up against the cold.
